Lisa Jones explores the notion of drawing as an act of thinking and doing and her drawings are inhabited by place, moment and memory. Place is revealed through erasure, observation and mapping; moment bears witness to the human presence through the bodily movements that create the marks and memory is represented through the erasure of the marks reflecting the dissolving of time and place – forgotten places and times. The drawings have a starting point in her personal collection of photographs of paving cracks, maps and anatomical illustrations and is a continuation of her research into the relationship between the body and place. The drawing series are a palimpsest of everyday of meanderings; they are cultural markers of place, time and history.
